Octomore 10.3 from Bruichladdich was distilled in 2013 using crop from the 2013 harvest. For the first time, this 10.3 variation has been matured for 6 years exclusively in ex-American Oak. These top quality casks have been hand picked for this top quality dram and sat next to Octomore 10.1 in the warehouse - Octomore 10.1 and 10.3 are very similar but the flavour produced are very different.
Aromas of earthy peat smoke, dry and a little medicinal containing lemon drop and thyme nuances. The palate shows off a little salty salinity on the lips and more honey with lemon on the palate before the peat comes in with the oak and heat from the high cask strength. The finish is sweet initially and then bitter notes of rubbery smoke and spice come near the end.
